After successfully updating two Pioneer FreedomBoxes I did a copy of the OS from my e-mail server (also a Pioneer) and updated it to trixie. The update was mostly successful. After the update we missed the e-mails in the mailbox (incoming mails). And SOGo had an issue with calendar and contacts. This problem (SOGo) was solved with a reinstall of SOGo from the FreedomBoxBackups. All the mails in /var/mail/ are still here. Now, since I additionally do backups with rsync, I would like to just copy the folder with the delivered mails back from the rsync backup after the final update, so I do not have to reinstall postfix/dovecot. The case is, that I couldn’t find the folders, where the incoming mails are stored in.
Does anybody know where? Maybe @Sunil?
I found a bug in dovecot configuration that would cause this problem. I submitted a patch and FreedomBox new release will have the fix. Until then, you do the following to fix the issue.
To fix the issue with not seeing the mails in your inbox: Edit the file /etc/dovecot/conf.d/15-freedombox-mail.conf and add the line “mail_inbox_path =” (note the empty value after the equal sign) after “mail_path =…”
Note that any mails you have received since the distribution upgrade have to be handle manually. They are present in /var/mail/{username}/u.* . Sorry for the inconvenience. Thank you for upgrading early
Thank you @Sunil! My workaround was to move the mails of the inboxes of all accounts to an inbox-subfolder and to move them back from the subfolder to the inbox after the upgrade. But cool to have a patch
It looks like I have some difficulties to understand your patch @Sunil .
If I add 'mail_inbox_path = ’ in /etc/dovecot/conf.d/15-freedombox-mail.conf
it looks like this:
If I did understand it right, there has to be an empty space after the equal sign. If I apply this patch on my running trixie then e-mails in the inbox of my mail clients disappear.
