No log in journal from before boot

On my Pioneer with HDD, in plinth, in the general configuration, I have enabled writing the journal to the disk.

It is the second time in a few days that my freedombox becomes unreachable, not even by ping so I removed the power and put it back. When I check the journal with sudo journalctl, what there is before the last boot is something really old, not what happened before so I have no clue at all what happens when I loose control.

Is there something else to ensure that the journal is written to the disk?

If you set persistent logging in the Config app, then it should work. We are investigating an issue where a reboot is required for this setting to take effect. So, if you have just changed the setting, try rebooting for it to take effect. After the change to persistent logging you will see the following contents in the file /etc/systemd/journald.conf.d/50-freedombox.conf:

[Journal]
Storage=persistent
