New 64-bit images for Raspberry Pi 3B, 3B+ and 4B

Many of you have reported that the current UEFI based images for Raspberry Pi 4B are harder to use than typical disk images as they require a separate disk to hold UEFI firmware. So, in addition to existing generic UEFI based images, we are now building and recommending an image specifically for Raspberry Pis.

  • This image is 64-bit using the arm64 architecture.
  • Single image works for multiple boards. Raspberry Pi 3B, Raspberry Pi 3B+ and Raspberry Pi 4B have been tested.
  • It works like a regular disk image. Writing to SD card using a disk imaging tool and just boot. Booting from USB disk is expected to work if the board supports booting from USB.
  • It contains the Raspberry Pi boot firmware and Wi-Fi firmware. A Wi-Fi network is automatically configured and makes it easy to find and configure FreedomBox.

Many thanks to @jvalleroy for adding the support for this.
