Freshly installed system refuses to upgrade beyond v23.18

I reinstalled my Pioneer FreedomBox by downloading the SDCard image from https://freedombox.org/download/pioneer/.

During setup, I only selected defaults (automatic updates, automatic updates to next stable version, and frequent updates all turned on).

Only some packages are updated, though. FreedomBox itself refuses to upgrade past v23.18.

I’ve tried updating manually several times, and also rebooting, then updating again.
This is on a freshly installed system, using the official SDCard image, with no apps installed, and default choices.

My FreedomBox has a built-in battery backup and internal 2.5" 1 TB HDD (unformatted).

Your picture shows Debian 12 but the link on Pioneer Edition FreedomBox | FreedomBox - Personal Server at Home is https://ftp.freedombox.org/pub/freedombox/hardware/pioneer/stable/freedombox-trixie_pioneer_a20-olinuxino-lime2-armhf.img.xz, which has trixie in the name and then should be Debian 13. Are you certain that the file that you copied to the SD card is the one you just downloaded from there?

As Avron suggested and going by the input file in your dd command it doesn’t seem to be the latest image.

Have you verified the signature of the downloaded image as per the instructions?

Be advised that you need to adapt the filename in those commands.

Thanks, I followed the link to the ftp archive, and must have downloaded the wrong image and .sig file there.

My mistake.

Reading this topic in order to try to solve my own problem, I think I simply don’t understand how upgrading is supposed to work?

When (non)deliberately installing and running a 12-version, and enable the check-box to upgrade to next stable release, I expect the freedombox to upgrade to the 13-version on it’s own?

Or does next stable release only refer to releases within the x-range?

So when going from 12 to 13, I have to rewrite the SD-card? Or have to do the ‘normal’ Debian way to go from to 12 to 13?

I am not 100% sure, but I have a recollection that I did this and this is indeed what happened, but not immediatetely (there may be some kind of random delay, possibly so that when there is a new release, not everyone is upgraded at the same time).

If you have checked the box in the freedombox web interface to go for the next stable release, the only thing to do is wait until it happens automatically.

Thanks for reply, should work as expected, just to be sure.
