Debian 11 to 12 Upgrade

Made and restored a backup of Freedombox (Debian 11 base) for some testing of this Debian 12 update.

Conducted manual update last night and it went to 23.6.2.

Tested again tonight updating and it sits at 23.6.2. No migration to Debian 12. Is this only possible via the Auto update feature and not via the manual update button?

Trying to step advance this copy VM and see if I have troubles like some others experienced w/o the down time.

In my experience, Auto update did not upgrade to Debian 12. I had to update manually, from the command line. If you are on 23.6.2, you have the latest version of the FreedomBox package (at least from the stable repos).

This is mine:

How’s yours? If you’re still on Debian 11, you might need to perform the distribution upgrade manually.

Yeah, I read some of those other articles and it seemed like others were getting the update via FB but I had been unsuccessful. That’s fine- Won’t be my first manual dist upgrade though I missed doing 10 → 11 on FB since Debian 11 was already out when I spun up FB for the first time. Not that that wasn’t its own ball of wax with finding things in backports.

Yeah, I checked announcements and saw that everything past 23.6.2 was experimental so I didn’t expect the version to increment (unless there was a patch # bump for going to Debian 12).

Still chilling at Debian 11. I generally keep auto updates turned off, as the system updates that break matrix do so at the worst possible time, every time. EVERY TIME.
I’ve read the top two threads (hence my snapshot and spawn a second, network separated instance to try test the Debian 11 → 12 update). I’ll hold off and, if necessary, spawn my next clone on the more powerful server and give it a bunch of resources to churn through as fast as possible. That or its back up the application data, build a new Debian 12 instance and roll Freedombox on top of it, same as I did previous.

But I’m inclined to wait it out a bit and see how Debian 12 goes a bit longer before I make that switch.
