If you are asking for support for an issue, please include the following information at the top of your post:
Whether your FreedomBox is plugged into a router at home or not (if not, please specify how it is connected to the internet)
I am connected to the internet and using a google nest router.
The month and year you bought your kit (feel free to omit if you want to preserve some privacy, but this could be helpful information)
The version of FreedomBox your are running (available by clicking on the “?” in the top menu → “About”)
Besides, if you router allows you do see the DHCP address it has allocated, you can try those as one is surely the one of your freedombox.
If you have doubts whether your freedombox is working at all, you could connect an HDMI display to it, this should show that this is ready as well as the addresses to access it.
Sorry, ill with covid. I did try the HDMI plug to no avail. I’ve done the dhcp look and it’s not listed. I think at this point my only option to to download the software to one of my computers and run Freedombox from there. Thanks for taking a look.
I have three Pioneers running and as a beginner, it took me a while, to understand FreedomBox and the whole setup process. I’ve had also some issues in the beginning, because I did not allow the FreedomBox to have its time to install all the software. Download the image again and burn it to your SD card. Boot your FB and wait, it will take hours (in my cases about 1,5 - 2 h). Restart and update to the latest Version and restart again before you add apps. This way I’ve had no more problems at all and they run very well since then. Hope this will help.
Hello, I tried to install the Pioneer image I downloaded from freedombox/download/pioneer and extracted the image and tried burning the image to the SD card using Balena etcher and get errors from etcher saying there is a problem with the metadata. I’ve tried two SDs so I’m pretty sure that isn’t the problem. Could the image on the site have a problem or am I doing something else wrong.
Balena Etcher is fine. I’ve downloaded the images freedombox-stable_pioneer_a20-olinuxino-lime2-armhf.img.xz from here: https://ftp.freedombox.org/pub/freedombox/hardware/pioneer/stable/
My next suggestion would have been to try an other SD of good quality. But you already did that (If you took an old SD, try to buy a new one of good quality). Don’t touch the contacts of the SD because of electrostatic damage to the stored data.
Once your system is running follow the guides here on the forum to harden your system and make it reliable. For me the best solution was to move the btrfs section to a SSD connected with the built in SATA. There is an extra box from Olimex for this.
I’ve downloaded and install the .img file but still unable to get to initial login page, even through a direct ethenet connection from my laptop (tried with connection to router too) and waiting for a couple hours for it to configure itself. It shows a solid green led connect with a blinking amber but I think I need to learn how to configure my Mint Linux wired port to find and list possible connections. Thanks, I’ll let you know if I am able to connect.
