Good Bad ISPs

I would like us to have a specific section where ISPs can be discussed. The goal is to help each other by sharing our experiences with our ISP, be that a residencial one or a cloud provider.
It could be a post or maybe an entire category here on the forum. Off the top of my head some things a feedback should cover:

  • Your country / state

  • Name of the ISPs

  • Your router’s modell maybe?

  • Is port forwarding possible?

    • If so, are there any ports that are blocked (like SMTP)?
    • If you’re behind NAT, can you request that your ports get open somehow?
  • Can you obtain a static IP for some extra fee?

  • Is your ISP okay with torrenting?
This is an interesting question. In the western part of the world you might even get in trouble for downloading Ubuntu via bittorrent, while in other places, like Eastern Europe, even piracy is allowed.

Is there any points you disaggree with or something you would like to add? Once we have enough feedback, we can gather these data into a page like the Tor Project’s Good Bad ISPs resource.

Gandi DDNS

I’d like to make a video tutorial covering the setup of an email server. Currently I use these two scripts to connect my Gandi domain to my dynamic home IP: script one, script two. Do you know of any more sophisticated methods that I could show in the video?
