E: Failed to fetch

  • My FreedomBox Pioneed is plugged into a router at home.
  • I purchased my kit in April 2022.
  • I am running Debian GNU/Linux 11 (bullseye) and FreedomBox version 22.9.

Almost every application I try to install results in an error message that begins something like this:

Error installing application: Error during installation E: Failed to fetch http://deb.debian.org/debian/pool/main/h/hunspell/libhunspell-1.7-0_1.7.0-3_armhf.deb Could not resolve 'deb.debian.org'

This includes:

  • Let’s Encrypt
  • ejabberd
  • Matrix Synapse
  • Postfix/Dovecot
  • Tor
  • calibre
  • Deluge
  • Gitweb
  • MediaWiki
  • infinoted
  • Radicale

ikiwiki is the only application that I’ve been able to install successfully.

This looks like a temporary network issue. Please check FreedomBox’s network configuration. For example, if machines on your network need to have a DNS server set manually, provide that in the network configuration.

Do you use a fixed internal IP adress? If so, you do not get the DNS-server-settings from your router. This could relate to the other discussion you started.

Try to use DHCP (with a static entry in the router after first boot of the FBX), change the port-forwardings in your router to the new IP and try again.
